Information
The most ancient people lived in this land were Thacians. We know that from the Roman inscriptions founded in the ruins of the castle called "Kaleto" near Obedinenie. The castle used to be on a main road conected Nicopolis Ad Istrum and Nove - important citys in Roman province Misia.
At the Middle Ages in Obedinenie's area lived Bulgarians. There are ruins of buildings near the village.
At time of Bulgarian independancy from Turks - 1878 - the village has two parts. The south part, which was the bigger lived Turks and the smaller north with 54 houses - Bulgarians.
The legend talks that the Turks founded the village on the place of destroyed Bulgarian village in 1770. The other legend talks that Grandpa Belcho looked for a good place for agriculture with fresh water. He founded it just in Obedinenie. Belcho took a permission for this place from the local Turk leader Abdullah Aga in 1805. The first settler was very good builder and carpenter. Many Bulgarians from the Balkan came in thir new home next years. They established two villages - Mekish and Tencha. Mekish means soft wood which growed in that area. Tencha means turbulent spring.
In 1835 Bulgarians were many and they need a church. But at that time it was almost impossible to get a permission to build a church because of the Turks. Some brave Bulgarians tried to start a build at night but at day Turks destroyed their work. Finally priest Nikola managed to take a permission for building a church from the Vidin's Turk leader who traveled near Tencha and Mekish. The first orthodox church was build in 1839 in Mekish. It exists to 1908 when was build the new one on it's place. The new church is bigger and call "St. Paraskeva". It was sanctify on 25.10.1909 from Veliko Turnovo's bishop Antim. In 1873 in Tencha was build the church "Archangel Michail" which is still there.
The first school was founded in 1856 - 22 years before Bulgarian Independancy. It exists to 1892 when was build the new one. In 1929 was build the High school in Obedinenie.
The two villages - Tencha and Mekish developed very fast and soon they were almost a united whole. In 1923 the two villages had 280 houses with 1400 residents. The most common style of building is the stone brickwork.

The first water-main in the village was build in 1928. In the same year founded and the first telephone line.
From 1941 to 1947 the name of the two villages was "Prince Simeon" in the name of Bulgarian crown prince who was Bulgarian prime minister from 2001 to 2005.
When the communists forced the authority the name of that already one village was Botevo. It lasts just 6 moths. Then the name was changed to Obedinenie which meand "united" - the symbol of agreement of the old two villages.
The streets are 32 km now, part of them are asphalted.
Obedinenie will be a SPA resort in the future because in 1971 was founded thermal water. We are waiting for investors who started developing that. More information you can see in "Thermal water" on this page.
